AboitizLand PR | October 24, 2018

Now a step closer to its vision of bringing the country’s longest-running football league in the national football scene, AboitizLand opened on October 13 the Aboitiz Football Cup Luzon leg at the Aboitiz Pitch inside The Outlets at Lipa, Batangas.

“With the success of Aboitiz Football Cup Visayas, we are confident to get the same ripple effect it did in Cebu. We will do this by establishing a local football community, capacitating coaches and referees, and supporting football at the grassroots level,” said Joey Zamora, The Outlets at Lipa General Manager.

AFC Luzon kicked off with the Boy’s U15, which is participated in by Batangas-based Canossa Academy Lipa and Sugod Malvar FC, Laguna-based Acquire FT and Calamba Puppies FC, Bulacan FC, and NCR-based De La Salle Zobel and Xavier Stallions FC.

A more intense match despite the weather, Men’s Open kicked off with nine clubs last Sunday with teams from Laguna-based Acquire FT and UPLB Men’s FT; Batangas-based FC Reigning Kicker, AFC Real Molinillo, Green Stallions FC, Walls FC, University of Batangas FT and NCR-based Philippine Airforce FT.

Alabang’s La Salle Zobel FC turned down Laguna’s Acquire FT (2 – 1) to bag the U15 championship title, while Philippine Air Force FC rallied past University of Batangas FC (2 – 0) to claim the title in the Men’s Open.

Also present during the opening ceremony were Malvar Mayor Alberto Lat, RSA 1 President Rely San Agustin, Philippine Azkal team member Junior Munoz, and former Philippine Azkal players Ian Araneta and Yanti Bersales Araneta.

Organized by RSA Una Group, AFC Luzon is composed of 15 categories ranging from Mixed U7 to Men’s 45 and up. Several matches from different categories will be held every Saturday and Sunday at the Aboitiz Pitch and will run until mid-December.

Closing and awarding ceremony is scheduled for December 9 at the Aboitiz Pitch, The Outlets at Lipa.

The Aboitiz Football Cup started in Cebu in 1997 with the aim of developing football at the grassroots level. Now on its 20th season in Cebu, AFC continues to provide education through sports, hone local talents, and provide an avenue for local players to exhibit their skills.
