Making kids smile this Christmas season

Amy Chua | Dec. 14, 2017

The Christmas Outreach is a long-standing tradition that is highly valued in the Aboitiz Group. This activity is an Aboitiz way of giving back to the communities on with all the blessings received throughout the year.

Every year, various business units of the Aboitiz Group conduct fund-raising activities such as trivia, music, bingo, and movie nights, and parol-making activities to support the annual Christmas Outreach, wherein children are gathered for games and gift-giving. The funds raised by the business units are matched by the Aboitiz Foundation to make more kids happy on this special season.

This year’s run was made a little more special. The recent Christmas Outreach activities held in Taguig and Cebu put smiles on the faces of hundreds of kids while they make Christmas lanterns with the Aboitiz Group team member-volunteers and received their Christmas packages.

Over 550 kids from Barangay Bagumbayan and the Children of Cebu Foundation, Inc. joined the outreach activities at the Cayetano Sports Complex, Barangay Bagumbayan in Taguig City, and at the Aboitiz Corporate Center in Cebu City.

EIA’s Speech at the Christmas Outreach 2017

Sa mga batang narito, Barangay local officials, Guests and friends, Fellow team members – good morning and thank you for joining us today.

Isang magandang umaga sa mga residente ng Bagumbayan. Thank you very much for your warm welcome.

As you may know, the annual Christmas Outreach is a proud tradition in Aboitiz. Over the years, this has been one of the most awaited activities in the Aboitiz Group. As early as October of every year, our team members conduct a series of fundraising activities to make sure that every outreach will be special and memorable.

For this year, on top of the Trivia Night and movie-for-a-cause, our team members introduced the parol-making fund-raising activity, which will be the highlight of our outreach today. These parols symbolize both the spirit of Christmas and the spirit of volunteerism. We hope to put on a smile on the faces of children as they bring home a parol.

Our team members will make these parols together with you. They have always lent a helping hand and make our volunteer activities successful like the Brigada Eskwela, Annual Simultaneous Tree Planting, and the many relief operations that we do in areas where we operate.

While we strive to excel in our business operations, we know that success can only be truly meaningful when the people and communities around us benefit and share in the value that our businesses create. Each time we go out together and visit our neighbors, we are actually giving thanks to everyone who inspires our Group purpose and brand promise to drive change for a better world by advancing business and communities.

Christmas and happy kids go hand in hand. Seeing the smiles on the faces of the children confirms that we are on track in fulfilling our purpose and that is so gratifying. We still have a lot in store for you and I know you are all eager to find out what happens next on our program. Let me close by thanking all of you from the Christmas Outreach Committee, the Aboitiz Foundation, Corporate HR, and all our team members — those of you here and the rest of us who could not make it but, nonetheless, gave their support for today’s activity.

An advanced ‘Merry Christmas’ to all! Let us make this Saturday morning special, memorable and enjoyable!
