Technical skills open livelihood opportunities in Liloan

June David | March 15, 2018

Following their completion of the recent AboitizLand Purposive Skills Training Program for Carpentry NC II and Tile-Setting NC II certifications, 50 Liloan locals have found inspiration to further excel and thrive with their newly acquired craft.

Among them is Liberty Jay Trinidad. While finishing the carpentry course may already be an achievement in itself, being an example of how women have equal potential to succeed in a male-dominated industry is a much greater accomplishment.

Like her fellow graduates, she is optimistic about being able to work in and gain experience from local companies and maybe even finding opportunities abroad later on. After all, opening doors to a promising employment path is the primary objective of the program.

Ang tumong og tinguha ra namo sa AboitizLand every time we implement skills training programs kay ang matabangan ang among mga silingan nga communities like Liloan nga mulambo pinaagi sa pagtabang sa mga katawhan nga makakat-on og bag-o nga skills haron makakita og disente nga trabaho (Our purpose in AboitizLand every time we implement skills training programs is to help our neighboring communities like Liloan to progress by helping local residents learn new skills so they can find decent jobs.),” said Carlo Tenerife, AboitizLand’s Corporate Social Responsibility Manager.

PROUD MOMENT. Liberty delivers her speech during the commencement ceremony held last February 17.

With 100% passing percentage in the TESDA Assessment for NC-II certification, the 25 carpentry and 25 tile-setting graduates also received starter kits from AboitizLand and Aboitiz Foundation to further equip them either for employment or even putting up their own businesses.

Driven to continuously create better ways to live, AboitizLand aims to deploy some of the graduates in its developments in Cebu, specifically in Amoa and Almiya, through its contractors as they address their manpower requirements.

Through enterprise development projects like the skills training program, AboitizLand indeed continues to fulfill its promise of advancing business and communities.
