UnionBank branch achieves first PH LEED v4 in PH

UnionBank Sustainability Team | May 11, 2018

The US Green Building Council (USGBC) has granted LEED Gold Certification to UnionBank’s Mayon branch in Quezon City, the first and by far only LEED v4 certified project in the Philippines.

The brings to nine UnionBank’s LEED-certified branches, which include Tacloban, Olongapo, Angeles, Batangas, Bonifacio Global City 3rd Avenue and 26th Street, Cebu Mactan Newtown, and Cebu Time Square.
The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system is an internationally recognized standard for green buildings that promote a healthy, durable, affordable, and environmental practice in building and construction. LEED v4 is the newest version of the green building design that is more specialized and geared towards a better user experience.
USGBC’s new and more stringent screening for the certification has seven categories: integrative process, location and transportation, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, and innovation.
Achieving LEED certification is more than implementing sustainable practices. It represents a commitment to making the world a better place and to influence others to do better.
-Mahesh Ramanujam, President and CEO, USGBC
“Given the extraordinary importance of climate protection and the central role of the building industry in that effort, Union Bank of the Philippines demonstrates its leadership through the LEED certification of the bank’s Mayon branch,” Ramanujam added.
Meanwhile, for UnionBank Mayon branch manager Juliet Bergado, a sustainable design also makes a working environment stress-free.
“The better indoor environment will make us more productive, decrease our utility cost, and optimize our well being,” she said.
UnionBank’s LEED-certified branches are a testament to the Aboitiz Group’s sustainability mindset, continuing our strides towards fulfilling our promise of advancing business and communities.
